Our workplace reality is changing and is impacting our physical work environment. How can you furnish your office, healthcare or educational environment in a safe, responsible and inspiring way? And what will these changes mean for your work environment in the long term? Gispen can help you in answering all these questions. As far as we're concerned, hybrid working is now a fact.
Many of our clients are wondering what the work environment of the future will look like. "In what way will the new workplace reality affect out physical work environment?" We prefer not to speak of the work environment of the future; we believe in work environments with a future. We believe that existing educational, healthcare and office environments for a great foundation upon which you can build towards meeting future wishes or requirements. And should your needs change over time, our flexible and modular solutions will guarantee that adjustments or upgrades are easily realised. After all, most organisations are constantly evolving.
A combination of frequent remote working and, where possible, working on location has already become common in many places. We expect that organisations will systematically opt for hybrid forms of working; forms in which employees are even more flexible in choosing how and where they can best perform their work. At the office, from home and/or elsewhere? This takes it one step further than activity-related working in one location.
Depending on the type of hybrid working method and your organisation's objectives, we recommend taking a thorough look at your interior design. Does your work environment adequately facilitate connection, creation and innovation, for example?
Insinto was commissioned by Gispen to conduct research into new developments that organisations are experiencing within their work environments. We are happy to share the results with you!
We distinguish four important trends and developments within the perspective of the new workplace reality: employees are working more from home. The central office, healthcare or educational environment has become more of a social gathering place. Distance, safety and hygiene are changing the layouts of work environments. And employees commute less and videoconference more.
Remote working is here to stay. This is why home offices are given more consideration by employers and social partners. After all, the same ergonomic rules as used at the office apply to working at home. The basic needs are the same: having a proper height-adjustable desk with an ergonomic office chair and preferably with cords and cables safely tucked away. This is how employees can work efficiently, safely and happily wherever they are.
It is because of remote working and more distance that people will want to meet up with their colleagues to socialise. They want to feel connected with one another and with the organisation they work for. As a result, your central office, healthcare or educational environment will fulfil a more prominent role as a meeting place; where people spend time to confer, work together or provide coaching.
A social distancing office calls for clever prioritising. Which activities can be carried out by whom and when? How can you make effective use of the available space in your existing layout? An adaptable office redesign may be required, allowing your layout to be quickly adapted to new situations.
Distance, safety and hygiene will permanently affect the layout of your office, healthcare or educational environment. New floor plans and routings are being created, people are kept separate and new materials are introduced. Interior layouts and the use of agile workstations are changing, sometimes with the application of a reservation system. What holds true to all these solutions is that they may not interfere with the social function of the work environment in question. Providing good information to employees will contribute to finding a workplace that suits the intended activities and is used optimally. There are no standard solutions for overhauling your physical working environment. That is why Gispen is happy to share its expertise with you.
Videoconferencing is necessary for situations where physical contact is not possible. It also comes with more flexibility so that your meetings, training courses and presentations can always proceed. Not to mention the environmental gain; videoconferencing results in less commuting. However, a social distancing office does require a different interior layout. Employees who confer virtually, don’t want to disturb their colleagues in the same room and vice versa.
More (hybrid) meetings on the office floor or conference calls instead of off-site meetings affect the noise level at the office. Proper acoustics are therefore vital, both for the person carrying out the activity and for their colleagues. Good solutions that can be realised quickly include enclosed, soundproof room-in-room concepts.
