MULTIFUNCTIONAL FURNITURE
We also supplied new products in addition to refurbished furniture. Ewout: ‘Product interchangeability is important. Today, the furniture matches the University's corporate identity perfectly, but what about in ten years' time? And what if the furniture is moved to a completely different study programme? Interchangeability is what we selected the tables and chairs for.’
The appearance of the Gispen NOMI Design chair is easy to change by simply swapping the upholstery covers, for example. Conference chairs transform into bar stools by changing the base. And by changing the legs of Gispen TEAM tables, their height is increased from 75 to 110 cm. Wood can be swapped for steel in an instant, and wiring is easily added. Ewout: ‘This way, the furniture is both flexible and durable.’
CAREFUL PLANNING
Gispen project supervisor Eline Spijkerboer provided project management services. Erwin: ‘The delivery of products had to take place in a timespan of about six weeks. This required careful planning, taking into account the various parties working in the building simultaneously and the logistical challenges that come with it. It's great that Gispen thinks along with you at a high level. Every week, we discussed the schedule and agreed on the next steps to be taken. Gispen was present on site to steer things in the right direction: from discussing the best plan of action with the painters to instructing the fitters.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE RESULT?
In only one year, the building was furnished from start to finish. Erwin: ‘The users are impressed by the new building. It has become a beautiful campus, which is partly thanks to the furniture. Everything looks brand-new, even the refurbished items. That tells a lot.’ On to the next project!
