Gispen Showroom in Culemborg K5B6125

Last week, parent company Royal Ahrend announced the relocation of the Gispen production facilities and logistics to Sint-Oedenrode, which raised questions with various people and some media. Will Gispen leave Culemborg in its entirety? ‘This couldn’t be further from the truth', according to Gispen commercial director Maurits van Berckel. ‘Our showroom will stay in Culemborg, as will commerce, service and customer support.'

Maurits van Berckel intends to avoid any confusion: ‘Only the production facilities and logistics are relocating to Sint-Oedenrode. In fact, it is from Culemborg that we plan on strengthening our market position as a design partner and circular frontrunner in the coming years.

New production site

The relocation of the production facilities and logistics to Sint-Oedenrode is to be completed before the end of 2021, where more space will be available. This location is also where parent company Royal Ahrend is investing in an optimal factory layout and from where it is increasing the level of sustainability of the production facilities for the entire organisation.

Well on course

Maurits van Berckel: 'Despite our current order volume being under pressure due to the Corona pandemic, commercially we are well on course as a circular design partner and healthcare and education specialist. The fact that the two largest employers in the Netherlands, including the Ministry of Defence, have opted for Gispen in such dire times gives confidence in the future. We are also working with Radboud UMC and various municipalities. And we are very proud of these accomplishments!

Gispen is currently maintaining a strong position in the education, healthcare and government sectors. Maurits van Berckel: ‘Fortunately, by landing large orders for home workstations, our business operations in the commercial market have partly compensated for losses due to COVID-19. We are currently processing our largest order ever: over 8,000 home workstations are to be delivered to one of our clients.’

Retaining efficiency and flexibility

The relocation to Sint-Oedenrode is part of a multi-year strategic plan in which the efficiency and sustainability  of the organisation and greater flexibility of production is essential. Maurits van Berckel: 'Unfortunately, the economic consequences of the coronavirus have also affected our organisation. It was precisely for this reason that our parent company decided to push forward the change that was already on our strategic agenda. As a result, Gispen will be even more successful in meeting its clients’ wishes in office furniture and interior design solutions.’
